Again more openVFR sceneries covering areas of Europe, Asia & South America

We have again extended our high quality VFR scenery range for Microsoft Flightsimulator X based on Openstreetmap. In this development cycle new sceneries covering more areas in Asia, Africa, South America and also Europe have been added.

We are very happy that we can add more and more countries to our openVFR project. Right now we have launched nearly 100 sceneries, some covering very unusal places for flightsimmers. We are very thankful to the flight community suggesting these interesting areas. F.e. we never thought about developing a scenery for Guyana before, but if we finally flew there, we were really suprised about its beauty. Pls, continue sending us your proposals. We love it!

For early next year we plan to launch some places in Canada, which have been requested in the past very often. We were faced with so many unsuccessful experiments in the last weeks. And so far we were not statisfied with our quality of creating inland water bodies. The water system of lakes, rivers and streams is very complex in most of the Canadian states. But we are sure, that we can show some outstanding preview screens in the very next future.

openVFR releases new VFR sceneries for Microsoft FSX covering areas of Europe, Asia & South America

We are happy to publish new versions of our FSX sceneries for some favor European countries. After the new version of openVFR Germany an updated version covering Austria, Switzerland and also Bulgaria and Cyprus are available for download now. Compared to the older versions the newly created sceneries are based on actual data of Openstreetmap and a new internal rendering technology, which gives much more detailed impression of the generated landscapes. Furthermore the region of Moldova has been added as a new scenery for flying VFR with Microsoft FSX. As usual you can find a landclass package (openVFR Terrain), additional 3D objects (openVFR Objects) and also a precise elevation mesh with a resolution of 75m (openVFR Mesh) in the download area.

Also we have continued flying VFR in foreign parts of the world. Following some user suggestions we have now developed some more FSX sceneries for Asia. "It was a pleasure for us to fly around in such wonderful landscapes. Thank you for your area requests." M. Freyt, the developer of openVFR, states "We really can suggest you to try flying VFR in those amazing regions by yourself."

For South America we have finally added the longawaited meshes for Brazil & Colombia. As usual the openVFR Meshes are improoving the standard elevation profile of the FSX very much. But, be warned: The download package of the Brazilian mesh is nearly 1 GB devided in 3 parts!

While testing with the above updates, we found some minor problems with some 3D objects near to the border of a country. These objects were placed twice in case of using both sceneries of one border. For those, who have already downloaded the 3D objects for Germany, Slovenia and Croatia (version 2011 only) can find relevant patches for free in the login area.

openVFR goes worldwide?

Last weeks we have finished the development of the long-awaited, improved version of the scenery covering Germany based on our new rendering technology we used also for our American ones. We hope you will enjoy a much better presentation of water, isles and buliding areas and also improved freeway traffic.

One of the most exciting features of openVFR is, that our flightsimulator scenery is not based on static data. As is build upon data of Opentreetmap everyone could improove its data source by simply editing the area of interest. On our openVFR website you can finally request us to develop an update for this specific region.

After the first exciting results with openVFR Africa we have decided to continue the development of some more interesting sceneries containing parts of Africa. Following the user requests of our flightsim community we have already prepared openVFR sceneries covering Ghana, Republic of Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia and Egypt. They are now ready to be downloaded.

Furthermore we also have published some more areas of North and South America:
South America - Chile, Columbia
North America - Costa Rica, Panama, Greenland, Newfoundland & Labrador

Finally we are also happy to present the first openVFR sceneries covering some areas in Asia and Oceania:

openVFR launches FSX sceneries for Africa & South America

openVFR publishes the first african countries as scenery for Microsoft Flightsimulator X: South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania & Madagascar. Also openVFR is very pleased to add some new countries for the scenery openVFR America. Following the proposals of our users we launch countries like Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia and the Falkland Isles. Additionally openVFR publishes two missing countries for openVFR Europe: Croatia and Slovenia, which have really nice mountain areas!

openVFR publishes the first african countries as scenery for Microsoft Flightsimulator X: South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania & Madagascar. Like all sceneries of openVFR there are different packages (terrain, objects and a mesh) available for each country. Also the new african sceneries are based on Openstreetmap and elevation data from NASA, re-worked CGIAR Consortium for Spatial Information.

"As we started our project we never thought, that we would finally create such a global scenery with countries from around the world.", Markus Freyt states. "As you might know, there are not too much FSX sceneries for Africa available. Therefore we thought that we just could give it a try if the data of Openstreetmap would be ready to create also a scenery for this continent. Well, we are really very fascinated that even for such foreign countries Openstreetmap has collected such brilliant data. So, we are looking forward to the future and what will happen next with openVFR."

openVFR North America II now launched!

Lately we have published some more countries to their FSX scenery for North America. The following US states have been launched: Alaska, California, Delaware, El Salvador, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. Also Venezueal (in South America) is now ready for download.

For the first time also a South American country, Venezuela, has been published as well. It has been developed, following several requests from the flight sim community. openVFR North America now launched!

We are very happy to announce that we have officially launched our first countries for North America in openVFR now. Just visit the product websites (Terrain / Objects) or our Facebook page to get an impression of the first nine countries, which are ready for download now.

"Fortunately Openstreetmap covers the whole planet with fantastic data for every place. So, when selecting the new countries we have listened to those flight simmers."

Also for openVFR North America you can select between "openVFR Terrain" and "openVFR Objects". Again both download products are based on data from the great user-driven Openstreetmap project. openVFR Terrain will add a lot of its geographical information like roads, rivers, forests,... Compared to older versions of openvFR the openVFR North America is much more sophisticated in representing city areas. Also isles in rivers and lakes are added. Finally freeway traffic for roads is now much more optimized. openVFR Objects is used to add 3D objects like wind generators or towers. Compared to older versions of openVFR this new version is again optimized in frame performance, but you'll still need a modern CPU and a powerful video card.

There was a high demand for an openVFR implementation of America. Therefore we started with the states Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Honduras and Caribbean area. Other countries of North America will follow soon. Right now the development of the new areas is still in process, but the some countries can be released soon.

Now available : openVFR Fantasia - Expect the unexpected!

Now its done! Our brandnew scenery "openVFR Fantasia" is available now. As far as we know, we seem to be the first, who ever launched a fantasy world for Microsoft FSX. So, please enjoy and expect the unexpected.
But, please don't worry, we are not going crazy now. ;-] Of course, we also will continue the highly realistic openVFR sceneries. Soon some US countries will be available. Here you even can suggest some new countries for free:

Tired of flying the same old VFR routes all night long? Well - then we have something really amazing for you! Come and explore two new islands we found in Mediterranean Sea. During development we internally simply called them "Corse Invers" and "Sardina Inverse", because some strange intergalactic pressure seemed to turn them upside down. So gain your flying experience and step into a really unknown world. Expect the unexpected. A world completely different. So, don't be surprised, if your altimeter seems to be crazy - it simply can't indicate the negative altitudes you are faced with in a world where the Mediterain Sea is the highest level of the terrain. Of course, you can expect great terrain quality as you might already know from other openVFR products. This is because also for this scenery we have taken exact geo data from Openstreetmap. So, still following the standard VFR charts you could start from the airport Corte - which is now located on a huge rock - to a world with castles placed on flying islands and lakes and villages lovely settled on top of the mountains instead of their real location somewhere in the valleys. Start up your engine now, but be careful - keep your eyes open and don't fly against those clouds made of stone up in your airspace in front of you.
